Usually, no. However, if you have sensitive skin and the therapist is providing deeper pressure to relieve pain related issues, there will occasionally be bruising. (Cupping)
I FEEL LIKE I HAVE KNOTS IN MY MUSCLES – DO I WANT A SWEDISH MASSAGE?
No, a Swedish massage is light pressure with long flowing strokes. It is not meant to break up knots or adhesion’s in muscle tissue.
MY UPPER BODY FEELS LIKE IT NEEDS THE MOST WORK. DO I NEED TO HAVE A FULL BODY MASSAGE?
No, in many cases we spend a full hour on the upper body. However, a full body massage will relax more muscle groups.
I HAVE A LOT OF MUSCLE TENSION IN MY UPPER SHOULDERS AND BACK. THE LAST THERAPIST I HAD HURT ME WHEN THEY WERE TRYING TO LOOSEN UP THE TISSUE. IS THAT OKAY?
Not if you were in discomfort during the entire massage. The pressure should always be to your tolerance. Limited breathing, holding your breath, or clenching your fists or toes are all indications that the pressure is too deep at that time. Next time, do not hesitate to tell the therapist to lighten the pressure.
